MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho dominated early and closed late to take down Nevada in four sets on Saturday morning at the Idaho Volleyball Classic.
Allison Munday led the Vandals with 15 kills, while
Delaney Nicoll added 14. The Vandals were much more successful at the net on Saturday morning, tallying 13 blocks.
It was all Vandals early as Idaho jumped out to an 8-4 advantage. The Vandals would stay up by a solid margin throughout, eventually leading by six on two separate occasions. Idaho would go on to take the set 25-21 behind a balanced offense and four kills from
Nikki Ball,
Allison Munday and
Delaney Nicoll. The Vandals hit .407 in the set.
Once again Idaho was hot to start, this time with a 7-1 advantage to open the second set. Nevada would fight back and hold a brief advantage at 14-13. Idaho reclaimed the lead at 17-16 and went on to take the set, 25-23. Munday led the way for the Vandals in the second with seven kills and two blocks.
Nevada took the third set. The Wolfpack got up early and maintained throughout, eventually winning 25-21.
The Wolfpack also jumped out to a big lead in the fourth, looking to force a deciding fifth set, but the Vandals had other plans. After trailing 14-7, Idaho responded with a 12-2 run to take a lead of its own. Things went back-and-forth from there, with Idaho ultimately taking the set 25-21 to win the match.
