BOISE, Idaho – Mario Duran Garza and
Matteo Masala pickd up a win over Air Force's Nick Vroman and Justin Waldman to advance to the second round of the Dar Walters Invite in Boise.
The format of the tournament is a best of three mini tournament with a doubles match and singles matches counting as one point.
Masala topped Vroman 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) and Garza finished off Waldman 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 to earn the win after dropping the doubles point 6-4.
The duo opened their second-round mini dual with a 6-2 loss in the doubles competition against Montana's Oisin Shaffrey and Ed Pudney.
The other Idaho team of
Francisco Gay and
Bruno Casino fell in their match to Air Force' Robert Baylon and Jordan Azuma.
Gay and Casino won the doubles match in the consolation match topping Montana Sam Baldwin and Josh Watkins 6-1.
The tournament will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. Weather permitting, tomorrow's matches will be played outside. Matches played at Appleton Tennis Center will have live video available here:
