MOSCOW, Idaho - Margo Schoesler scored a game-winning goal in the 69th minute to give the Idaho women's soccer team a 3-2 win over Hawaii, Wednesday in the Kibbie Dome.
Maddy Lasher and Jadyn Hanks each scored a goal in the first half. It was Lasher's third goal in three games.
Idaho went up 1-0 on the early goal from Hanks, who fired into the low left side, assisted by Maddie Haas. The play started with a beautiful cross from Lasher to set up the action.
After an equalizer by Hawaii in the eighth minute, Lasher scored following a free kick from midfield to give Idaho a 2-1 lead that held to the break.
In the first half, the Bows outshot the Vandals 6-5.
In the 48th minute, Hawaii tied up the game 2-2. From there, the Vandals upped the pressure, and a throw-in near the endline set up a shot to the crossbar by Ariel Lofton, a perfect opportunity for Shoesler to score.
The Wahine outshot Idaho 12-8, but the Vandals notched a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. Idaho goalkeeper Avrie Fox racked up four saves in the win.
The win gives Idaho the best start since 1999 when the Vandals opened the season with a 4-0-1 record.
The Vandals will hit the road Saturday to meet the University of Nevada's Wolfpack on their home turf. The match will take place Sunday, September 12 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
