PULLMAN, Wash. – Idaho women's tennis (0-1) dropped a dual meet against Washington State (4-0) 5-2 on Saturday at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
Underclassmen
Ke Syuan Jhang and
Ines Oliveira led the way for Idaho earning two individual wins and a doubles victory. The pair started off the match with a 6-3 win over Washington State's Michael Baterlova and Maxine Murphy in the No. 1 doubles position for the Vandals. The Cougars won on courts two and three to clinch the doubles point and go up 1-0.
In singles play, Oliveira earned her first career dual victory with a win over Maxine Murphy in the No. 2 singles position for Idaho. The native of Montijo, Portugal dropped the first set 7-5 before rallying back to take set two and three (6-2, 6-2).
Another three-set thriller took place on court three between Jhang and Elyse Tse. Jhang took the opening set 7-5 before Tse answered with a 6-2 win to force a third set. Jhang finished the job with another 7-5 victory to start the spring season 1-0 at the No. 3 singles position for Idaho.
The Cougars earned wins in the other four singles spots to clinch the victory.
NEXT UP: The Vandals return to action with a home match against Whitman College on Saturday, Feb. 12. The matchup will get underway at 9 a.m. from the Lewis-Clark State College Tennis Courts.
