FARMINGTON, Utah – Kira Witte was named the Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, highlighting an All-Conference haul for the Vandals that saw eight players earn honors, including three first-teamers.
Witte was joined on the first team by defender Cassidy Elicker and midfielder
Savannah Foster. Defender Alyssa Peters and midfielders Margo Schoesler and Jayd Sprague were named to the second team. Defender Rebekah Reyes and forward Maddy Lasher received honorable mention honors.
Witte tied a Big Sky Conference record with 11 shutouts on the year, including an Idaho and Big Sky record 10 straight shutouts in a span that stretched from August. 21 to Oct. 9.
She had a .759 goal against average in leading the Vandals to an 11-3-2 record, including a 6-2 mark in Big Sky action and the No. 2 overall seed in the Big Sky Championship.
Cassidy Elicker was an anchor on the backline, helping the Vandals stay on top of the defensive standings, but being seventh in the league in saves because of the limited pressure.
Foster tied for the team high with four goals and tallied three assists, including two game-winning goals. She had two goals in the final two games in the season.
Defender Peters notched a team-high five assists on the year, including several on the corner kicks. Her ball control was a key part of starting the Vandal attack and while helped maintain possession for Idaho.
Schoesler tallied a pair of goals and one assist on the year. Both of her goals were game winners. She earned Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors after the sweep of Montana and Northern Colorado.
Sprague made a big impact in her first year at Idaho as a transfer student. She was a physical presence in the midfield and added two goals and an assist on the year. She recorded a team-high 17 shots on goal.
Reyes was another key member of the Vandal defense that helped Witte earn Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Lasher was the Vandals' leading point scorer during the regular-season, despite missing two games with injury and not being 100% for several others. She tallied four goals and four assists on the year for 12 points.
The Vandals are the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky tournament and face the winner of the quarterfinal match up of Montana and Portland State Friday at 11 a.m. in Greeley, Colo.
