Idaho Cross Country Competes at West Regionals Friday

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho cross country teams make their way to University Place, Washington for the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 11 at Chambers Creek Regional Park, hosted by the University of Washington. The women's 6k race gets underway at 10 a.m., while the Vandal men will start the 10k at 11 a.m.

The Idaho women had arguably one of their best races of the season, scoring 69 points to secure a second-place finish at the Big Sky Championships two weeks ago. The Vandals used two top-five finishes to help take home runner-up to No. 4 ranked Northern Arizona. Junior Maya Kobylanski clocked in a time of 16:37.4 in the 5k to earn third place while Idaho teammate Kelsey Swenson followed in fifth with a time of 16:41.1. Kobylanski made major strides from this year to last year's championship race, as she posted a 54-spot difference from a 57th-place finish in 2021 to a top three time in 2022.

The men earned fifth overall at the conference championship race. Senior Lorenz Herrmann led the Idaho men with a time of 24:15.5 to finish in 15th.

The women enter the race as the No. 10 ranked team in the West and will face stiff competition in the region. Four teams from the West Region are ranked in the top 25, including No. 10 Oregon, No. 11 Stanford, No. 14 California Baptist and No. 16 Washington.

The men find themselves ranked 15th in the West Region and will go up against five ranked teams - No. 1 Stanford, No. 14 Washington, No. 18 Oregon, No. 24 Portland and No. 25 California Baptist.
