UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Idaho cross country closed out its season on Friday at the NCAA West Regional Championships. The women took 10th overall while the men placed 16th.
The top 10 finish by the Idaho women was the programs highest finish at the regional race since 2004, as they beat out several Pac-12 schools - Washington State (12th), UCLA (13th), Arizona (20th), California (23th) and Arizona State (27th).
The Vandal women were led by
Kelsey Swenson in 11th with a time of 19:37.1 over the 6k race. She delivered personal records in the 3k, 5k and 6k by over a minute, falling just 1.9 seconds short from earning a spot in the National finals.
Maya Kobylanski was next in 50th in 20:16.9 while Katja Pattis placed 64th with a time of 20:27.6. Natalia Campos finished next in 74th, crossing at 20:36.4.
The men placed 16th as a team out of 31 teams. Lorenz Herrmann was the first to cross the line for Idaho, finishing in 66th with a time of 29:56.2. Gabe Dinnel followed in 76th (30:03.8) to round out the top 100 for Idaho.
