MOSCOW – The Idaho men's basketball team starts a two-game home stretch when hosting Cal State-Bakersfield for a mid-week matchup on Nov. 16. The game is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
In a time of difficulty for our community, coming together collectively can help. Admission to Wednesday night's men's basketball game, as well as Thursday night's volleyball game is free and open to all that may wish to attend for an outlet and to support our Vandal student-athletes. Those who had already purchased single-game tickets will receive a full refund. A moment of silence honoring the four UI student victims will take place prior to the national anthem in both games.

The Vandals (1-2) fell short of completing a 20-point second-half comeback at Omaha, falling to the Mavericks 79-72. Idaho came within three points of Omaha with 20 seconds left to play, but the home team was able to force critical turnovers and make free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Guard Divant'e Moffitt delivered his highest scoring output against a D1 opponent in the loss, recording 29 points on 8-of-16 from the field and 11 for 12 from the foul line. Yusef Salih and Nigel Burris each posted their second double-figure scoring performance of the year, as Salih had 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting and Burris tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.
Scouting the Roadrunners
Cal State Bakersfield is 1-1 overall entering the 2022-23 season. The Roadrunners earned their first win over San Diego Christian (68-35) to start the season and most recently fell at Utah, 72-44.
Antavion Collum leads CSUB in scoring with 11 points per game. Three other Roadrunners average at least six points a game - Kaleb Higgins (8.5), Cameron Smith (8.5) and Marvin McGhee lll (6). Modestas Kancleris has been the best rebounder and rim protector for CSUB with 8.5 boards and two blocks per game.
Series History
Idaho is 5-7 overall and 4-1 at home against CSUB. The two programs last met in Bakersfield last season, where CSUB earned a 59-58 win over the Vandals.
Notables
- Isaac Jones leads Idaho in scoring, averaging 18 points on 72.7 percent from the field. The Spanaway, Wash. native is also first on the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game.
- Guard Divant'e Moffitt is second on the team in points per game with an average of 16, which sits tied for third in the Big Sky. Moffitt is also one of the better passers in the league, ranking first for average assists per game at 5.3.
- Terren Frank and Yusef Salih round out the top four scorers for Idaho. Frank posts 12.7 points per game while Salih averages 10 ppg.
- As a team, the Vandals rank first in the conference in multiple categories, including assists per game (14.7), field goal percentage (51.7), scoring offense (85.7) and three-point percentage (38.9).
Preseason Notes
- Fourth-year head coach Zac Claus returns five players from last season, including two starters that combined to start in 40 games. Claus and his staff brought on board 10 newcomers, that include six transfers and four freshmen.
- Idaho posted a 9-22 overall record and 6-14 conference mark last season. The Vandals 2021-22 season was highlighted by a win over Summit League Champions South Dakota State and a three-game win streak over Weber State, Montana and Eastern Washington.The Silver and Gold finished off the season tied for eighth in the Big Sky.
- Senior guard Rashad Smith begins his second season in Moscow after averaging 10.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 2021-22. Smith formed into one of the best sharpshooters in the conference, as he shot an impressive 44.9% against NCAA D1 opponents on 127 three-point attempts and 46.9% on 96 threes versus conference foes.
- Sophomore guard Yusef Salih is back after appearing in 29 contests and starting in 14 as a true freshman. The Gainesville, Va. native posted 6.1 points per game, averaged 38.5 percent from three and knocked down 42 shots from behind the arc - third most in program history by a true freshman.
- Idaho reloaded in the transfer portal at the post position, adding forward/center Isaac Jones (Wenatchee Valley College) and forwards Terren Frank (Vanderbilt) and John Harge (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M).
- Jones put together a monster season at WVC in 2021-22, leading the Northwest Athletic Conference in scoring (25.3 PPG), rebounding (13.2 RPG) and field goal percentage (69.5) to earn NWAC Player of the Year.
- The backcourt features transfer guards Dom Ford (College of Southern Nevada), Divant'e Moffitt (Seattle Pacific) and Trey Smith (San Jose State).
- Moffitt will use his last year of eligibility to play for the Silver and Gold after spending four seasons at SPU, where he earned First Team All-GNAC and averaged the second most points in the league with 19.3 ppg.
- Smith also uses his final year to play in Moscow after spending four years at San Jose State. He started in 22-of-22 contests in 2021-22 for SJSU, averaging 8.8 points per game and 33 percent shooting from three.
- The freshmen class is led by Nigel Burris, a three-star (247 Sports) forward from San Francisco, Calif. Burriss is joined by Mikhail Abdul-Hamid (St. Louis, Mo.) Tyler Halligan (Green, Ohio) and Titus Yearout (Lapwai, Idaho).
- Other returners include Michael Hanshaw (Sr., Moorpark, Calif.), Jack Hatten (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif.) and RJ Walker (R-Fr., Decatur, Ill.).
Career Highs
- Guard Divant'e Moffitt reached double-digit assists (10) for the first time in his five-year career, becoming the first Vandal to post 10 or more assists in a single game since Mike Scott (1/17/15).
- Terren Frank eclipsed a career-best in points in a win over Walla Walla, with 24 points on 9 for 13 from the field.
- Isaac Jones recorded his first D1 double-double, supplying 21 points and 10 boards over Walla Walla.
- Dom Ford came off the bench and scored a career-high 17 points and eight rebounds versus Walla Walla.
- Nigel Burris made six shots and posted 13 points against Walla Walla.
