MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men's basketball team fell to Cal State Bakersfield, 52-43, on Wednesday night at ICCU Arena.
Isaac Jones and Divant'e Moffitt led Idaho with 10 points each. Jones posted his third double-double in three games with 10 boards while also shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the field. Moffitt scored in double figures for the third time this year while posting four rebounds and four assists.
Both teams struggled to find any kind of rhythm offensively as Cal State Bakersfield led 12-7 through 10 minutes of action. The Vandals eventually found themselves down 20-13 with a little over three minutes to play in the period before going on an 8-2 run to end the half to make the score 22-21. Yusef Salih and Terren Frank each knocked down a three of their own and Moffitt tallied two points at the foul line to make it a one-point game.
The Vandals were 7-of-24 from the field and 2 for 12 from three in the first half.
The second half started similarly to how the first half went with both teams unable to get the lid off the basket, as the Runners eventually scored the first points of the half at the 17:36 mark (24-21).
Idaho used a 9-0 run to capture its largest lead of the game at 30-24 before CSUB went on a 20-0 run to take a double-digit lead (44-30). The Vandals pulled within five but that would be the closest they would be as CSUB closed out the win, 52-43.
Turnovers continued to be a problem for the Vandals, as CSUB issued 18 takeaways that turned into 22 points.
Idaho falls to 1-3 on the season while Cal State Bakersfield moves to 2-1.
Idaho will be back at ICCU Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Utah Tech.
