SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Isaac Jones and Divant'e Moffitt scored a combined 41 points and Idaho men's basketball shot 54 percent from the field, but Cal Poly used a crucial 13-0 run to help secure an 82-71 win on Wednesday evening at Mott Athletics Center.
Moffitt led Idaho with 22 points and eight assists. The Spanaway, Wash. native shot 7 for 11 from the field, 8-of-9 from the line and scored or assisted on 42 of Idaho's 71 points on the night. The double-digit effort was Moffitt's fifth game of at least 10 points and the second time with 20-plus this season.
Jones contributed 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting in 28 minutes of action.
It was a back-and-forth affair throughout the first 20 minutes of action, with seven ties and five lead changes. Cal Poly grabbed its largest lead (39-34) of the first half with 32 seconds remaining before Moffitt drained a floater in the lane to make it 39-36 at halftime.
Leading the Vandals in the opening period was Moffitt's 12 points to keep Idaho within one possession of the Mustangs.
Idaho took its last lead of the game (40-39) at the 18:05 mark as the Mustangs would go on a 13-0 run to hold a 52-40 edge with 14 minutes left in the half. The Vandals lost Jones due to foul trouble early in the half as he picked up his third and fourth fouls at the 17:48 and 17:20 mark.
After trailing by 19 points, the Vandals made a run to bring it back within 11, but that's the closest they would come as Cal Poly moved to 2-4 on the season and Idaho went to 1-5 overall.
Forward Terren Frank pitched in 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in 27 minutes of action.
Cal Poly had its offense working early and often, as they shot 59.3 percent in the first half and 58.3 percent in the final 20 minutes.
The Vandals will take Thanksgiving Day off before heading to Stockton, CA to play the University of the Pacific on Friday at 6 p.m.
