MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is thrilled to announce the signing of Gioele Tengattini. Tengattini comes to Idaho from Grassobbio, Italy.
Tengattini began his track and field career in 2019 and made his mark early on by coming in second in the shot put at the Italian under-16 Outdoor National Championships. His marks from a young age showed the promise and potential he would display in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
The 2022 season was a tremendous year for Tengattini as he set his shot put and discus throws personal bests. In April he launched the discus 46.86 meters (153'8"), and in June heaved the shot put 16 meters even (52'5"). This mark in the shot put set the under-20 Bergamo provincial record at 7.26 kilogram (16 pounds) weight; Tengattini also currently holds the under-20 provincial record at 6 kilograms (13.22 pounds) weight.
Tengattini continued to excel at the national championships in 2022, placing third indoors and outdoors in the shot put at the under-20 level.
"Gioele is a well-rounded thrower who also gets it done in the classroom," Idaho Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Tim Cawley said. "We are happy he has chosen to be a part of the Vandal Family."
