Vandals Fall in Heartbreaker

HAMMOND, La. – Hayden Hatten caught nine passes for a career-high 209 yards and a touchdown and Jermaine Jackson had five catches for 111 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff 95 yards for another score, but a field goal attempt in the final seconds was wide left and Southeastern Louisiana held on for a 45-42 win Saturday at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond.

The Loss caps an amazing first year under head coach Jason Eck the saw the Vandals go from 3-6 against DI teams to 7-5 and a trip to the FCS playoff for the first time since 1995.

The Vandals earned rushing touchdowns from McCoy, Roshaun Johnson and Anthony Woods.

Idaho gave up an uncharacteristic three turnovers, including a pick six.

The Lions built a 45-25 lead and McCoy hit Jackson for a 70-yard pass to cut the lead to three, the Vandals got the back and drove into SLU territory, but kicker Ricardo Chavez slipped on the turf and his kick was wide.
