Comeback Falls Short for Vandals at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Sydney Gandy scored 23 and Beyonce Bea added 23 points and 11 rebounds for her 20th-carere double-double, but a second-half comeback bid fell short as Idaho fell to UTSA 76-69.

The early game was a back-and-forth battle, but the Vandals pulled ahead 24-18 with 7:16 left in the second quarter, but UTSA close the first half on an 11-0 run and led 37-28 at the break.

UTSA built a 65-46 lead in the fourth before the Vandals rallied to final deficit to 76-69 but couldn't finish off the comeback.

Bea continues her outstanding play early in the season. Her 23 points extended her per-game average to 22.6 per game.

Gandy's 23 points is her season high and ties her career high.

It was the first game of the season with two Vandals scoring 20 points and the first since Bea and Gandy did the same thing against Northern Colorado last season.

Idaho was 33.3% (20-60) from the field and 32.1% (9-28) from the three-point line.

The Vandals play a home game at ICCU Arena for the first time this season when they host Denver at 6 p.m.
