Two-Time Idaho Cross Country State Champion Commits to Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is thrilled to announce that McKenna Kozeluh from Coeur d'Alene Charter High School has committed to join the Vandal class of 2023.

Kozeluh began competing in 2019 and came into her own during the 2021 season. A Idaho state championship qualifier in cross country, she showed the potential she was about to unleash in the next two years.

Kozeluh broke out in 2022, setting new personal bests from the 800 meters to the 3200 meters, and finished in second place in the 1600 meter run and 3200 meter run, improving her place finishes from the previous year.

To qualify for the state meet she set a personal best in the 3200 meters at 11:16.75". At the state meet Kozeluh ran 5:23.32" in the 1600 meters. She continued her season into the summer, competing at the USATF Junior Olympics held in Sacramento this past July. She won both the 1500 meters in a time of 4:57.67" and the 3000 meters in 10:16" earning All-American status in both events.

Kozeluh picked right back up this cross country season where she left off in the summer; as a champion. This past month she won for the second consecutive year the 2022 Idaho 3A Cross Country State individual championship, and led Coeur d'Alene Charter to a fourth place overall team finish.

"McKenna is a talent on the track and in the classroom," Idaho Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tim Cawley said. "She fits in great with the team and we are happy to have her as a Vandal."
