A product of Esperanza, Argentina, Francisco (Fran) Gay joins the Vandals looking to make an immediate impact as a freshman newcomer. The Argentinian made a name for himself on the junior circuit before coming to Moscow as he was rated No. 1 in doubles and No. 7 in singles at the U18 level in his home country. Not only was he ranked one of the highest tennis players in Argentina, Gay also earned berths to the semifinals in two professional tournaments during his prep career. He is majoring in marketing at Idaho and hopes to work for a Fortune 500 company following graduation.
Where are you from and what do you like best about your hometown?
I'm from Esperanza, Argentina and the thing I like most about my hometown is all the different events that go on in my hometown. Â
What drew you to Idaho?
I'm good friends with all the players that are here and I really like the area.
What is your favorite memory of playing tennis?
My favorite memory playing tennis was at the Junior Future tournament in Paraguay when I was 17 years old. I played really well.Â
What is the hardest thing about tennis?Â
The most difficult part is keeping my composure and my mind right when things aren't going my way.Â
Do you have any personal goals for this upcoming season?
To do my best for the team and win the Big Sky. Â
