BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Idaho men's and women's track and field teams picked up four wins and 13 podium finishes at the 2022 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The men finished second overall and the women's team took third place.
"So proud of this team and the staff, we had a great showing," Director of track & field/cross country
Tim Cawley said. "Since we've been back in the Big Sky, it is the first time we have podiumed on both sides in the same meet."
Grady Leonard won both the weight throw and the shot put to be named the meets Co-Most Valuable Athlete. His 21.14 throw in the weight throw set a Big Sky Championship mark. In the shot put, his throw of 18.68 meters was almost a full meter better than his closest competitor.
Hannah Ringel won the women's shot put with a throw of 15.81 meters.
Cullen Williams took third in the weight throw with a mark of 19.43 meters to continue the dominant performance in the throwing events by the Vandals.
Lorenz Herrmann won the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:53.14 seconds. Winning the race by over a second.
Jurrian Hering took home two medals with a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.97 seconds. He placed third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.767 seconds.
The Idaho men had three of the top five finishers in the 60-meter dash. Caleb Hagen took fourth I (6.862) and
Jemini Archer took fifth (6.867).
Camryn Crouch also earned two medals with a second-place finish in the women's 200 meters with a time of 24.65 seconds and a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.59).
Jemini Archer took third in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.04 seconds.
Spencer Barrera raced to a second-place finish in the men's 400 meters with a time of 48.10 seconds.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Olivia Martin,
Aaryanna Kurucz,
Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi, and Franziska Stoehr raced to a second-place finish with a time of 3;48.54 seconds.
The women's distance medley relay team of
Katja Pattis,
Aaryanna Kurucz,
Anna Pecha, and
Nell Baker finished with a time of 11:57.0 to earn third place.
Joseph Ruddell earned the bronze with a 2.08-meter mark in the high jump. Justyn Rogers took third in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.18 meters.
Tayler LyDay placed third in the women's triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 12.05 meters.
"I think we have more in the tank going into the outdoor season, Cawley said. "So hopefully we can keep this momentum going into the spring."
The outdoor track and field season is set to get underway on March 26 in Missoula, Mont.
