COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Idaho men's tennis team rallied off four singles wins to outlast Omaha, 4-3, picking up the Vandals first win of the dual season on Saturday.

"The first win of the season always seems to one of the tougher matches," Head Coach Daniel Hangstefer said. "Omaha brought their A-game today. I felt that we did a great job of competing in every match. Overall, we got to see some great tennis this weekend and I'm glad we got to finish the weekend on a high note."

The top four spots in singles play for Idaho earned victories to lead the Vandals to a team win. Sophomores Francisco Bascon and Matteo Masala went a perfect 2-0 in singles action over the weekend, as Bascon picked up a win in the No. 1 position over Matt Hulme of Omaha (6-4, 6-7, 7-6). Masala was victorious in the No. 3 spot for Idaho, taking a three-set win over Hugo Piles Ballester, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Spaniard Bruno Casino won in straight sets to add one point to the scoreboard for the Vandals, dominating Davis Lawley 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Mario Duron Garza did his job at the No. 4 spot, picking up his first win in a Vandal uniform in dual-action over Victor Sklenka in three sets (6-1, 2-6, 6-2).

Omaha won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn one team point. Idaho's No. 1 doubles duo, Bascon and Casino, defeated Hulme and Ethan Henry, 6-4. The pair move to 3-2 in doubles action this season.

Idaho moves to 1-4 on the season while Omaha goes to 1-6 overall.

The Vandals make their first appearance at home next week when they go up against Seattle University and Lewis-Clark State College on Feb. 12. Action is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. versus Seattle U before wrapping up the day against LCSC at 2 p.m.
