Box Score FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho Vandals (12-17, 11-9) fell to Northern Arizona (15-13, 12-8) 86-69 to close out the regular season.
The Vandals shot just 24.1 percent from the field and got outscored 47-27 in the second half as Northern Arizona pulled away to win the regular-season finale.
Sydney Gandy tied a career-high 22 points on 7 of 14 shooting to lead the Vandals. She made a career-high five 3-point field goals.
Idaho started hot, quickly building a 21-8 lead with just under 3-minutes left in the first. But NAU responded with an 8-0 run to close the quarter and cut the lead to 21-16.The second quarter was back-and-forth featuring 12 lead changes. The Vandals led 42-39 at the half.
Idaho was able to extend the lead to 6 at 47-41 at the 7:49 mark of the third but then struggled to score. NAU closed out the third quarter on a 27-7 run to take a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Vandals shot just 37.1 (23-62) percent from the field, while NAU shot 50 percent (37-74).
Lousie Forsyth scored 16 points and five rebounds.
Tiana Johnson added14 points,
Beyonce Bea scored 13 points eight rebounds, and four assists.
The Vandals will head to Boise, Idaho for the Big Sky Tournament March 7-11. The Vandals will find out tonight if they are a 5, 6, or 7 seed in the
tournament.
