Men's Tennis Wrap Up Home Schedule against Idaho State, Montana

MOSCOW, Idaho — The Vandals men's tennis team host their final homestand of the season when they get set to face Idaho State and Montana. The Idaho State match will be held on Friday, April 15 at 11 a.m. while the Montana match will get underway Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m., with both matches set to take place inside the LCSC Tennis Center. 
 
IDAHO NOTES
  • The Vandals head into the new week with a 7-11 (3-2 BSC) record on the season after splitting a pair of home matches last weekend against Sacramento State (3-4) and Montana State (5-2). Idaho is currently sitting fifth in the Big Sky Conference standings, with the opportunity still in play to clinch a second seed.  
  • The Vandals have endured a tough road schedule with notable losses to Arizona State (0-4), Penn State (1-4), Michigan State (2-4), BYU (2-4), and a close conference loss against Weber State (3-4) back on Mar. 19. 
  • Sophomore Francisco Bascon has been one of Big Sky's top players at the No. 1 position, holding a 10-2 overall record and posting an impressive 4-1 record in conference action.
  • Sophomore Matteo Masala leads the Vandals in singles wins with a 12-4 mark, winning 11 out of his last 13 matches and delivering a perfect 5-0 mark in conference.
  • Mario Duron won his first career Big Sky Player of the Week honor this week after posting a dominating 4-0 record in singles and doubles. The Monterrey, Mexico native is one of two Idaho players to hold a 5-0 record in Big Sky competition. 
  • The Vandals' No. 1 doubles pair Bruno Casino and Francisco Bascon got back to their winning ways after recording their biggest victory of the season over Montana State. The tandem defeated the Bobcats No. 50 ranked duo of Matej Panik and Jamieson Nathan, 6-3.
  • The Silver and Gold notched its first conference win of the season at Northern Arizona (4-3), marking the first time a conference team has recorded a win in Flagstaff since 2015 and Idaho's first win at NAU in 14 years. 
  • The Vandals have also earned notable wins over Omaha (4-3), Seattle U (4-3), and Eastern Washington (7-0). 
  • The Vandals hold a 3-1 record at home this season. 
 
SCOUTING THE BENGALS
  • The Bengals hold a record of 11-9 (4-2 BSC) on the season and come off last week splitting two conference games against Portland State (6-1) and Montana (1-6). ISU is 2-7 away from Pocatello this season.
  • The Bengals have also lost against Pacific (3-4), Boise State (3-4), UC Davis (2-5), and Montana State (3-4). 
  • Idaho State holds notable wins over Saint Mary's (4-2), Sacramento State (4-3), Eastern Washington (7-0), and Weber State (6-1) 
  • Notable players for the Bengals include Patrick Kristensen who holds the fourth-best singles win percentage in the Big Sky Conference (13-3). In doubles, duo Ege Cankus and Hiroki Fujita hold the third-best doubles win percentage in the league at 9-2. 
  • The Bengals have won 3 out of their last 5 matches over the Vandals. 
 
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
  • Montana is 13-2 this season and sitting in second place in the conference with a 5-1 record. UM is fresh off a 5-2 win over Sacramento State on Tuesday. 
  • The Grizzlies have won four of their last five while holding a 5-1 record away from Missoula. 
  • UM has earned notable victories over Air Force (4-3), Boise State (4-3), Weber State (4-3), and Idaho State (6-1). 
  • Montana's only two losses have come at the hands of No. 52 Gonzaga (0-4) and Northern Arizona (3-4). 
  • UI is 2-3 over its last five meetings against the Griz and looks to snap a three-match losing streak Saturday. 

The Vandals wrap up their regular-season schedule on the road against Portland State on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. in Portland Oregon.
