LEWISTON, Idaho – Idaho men's tennis earned its fourth conference win of the season, 5-2, over Idaho State on Friday afternoon at the LCSC Tennis Center.
"I felt like the doubles set the tone," Idaho head coach
Daniel Hangstefer. "I thought that we continued to make adjustments in the doubles these last two matches and that made a big difference for us going into singles."
Idaho got off to a hot start winning two out of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Francisco Gay and
Mario Duron picked up Idaho's first victory at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-4 over Ethan Lye, Ethan and Wikus Robbertse.
Francisco Bascon and
Bruno Casino continued their success at No. 1, defeating Aleksander Petrovic and Patrik Trhac, 6-4.
In singles play Idaho won four out of six matches, securing the match win.
Idaho State tied it up at 1-1 before
Matteo Masala won 6-4, 6-3 over Andreas Kramer to put the Vandals back up.
Next, Gay battled in a 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaker victory in the number two spot.
Casino clinched the match victory for the second consecutive time for the Vandals, winning 7-6 (14-12), 6-3, in the No. 3 spot.
Mario Duron added another point for the Vandals at the No. 5 spot, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
The Bengals won at No. 6 to finish out the match.
NEXT UP: Idaho will wrap up their home schedule when they face Montana on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m.
