Vandals Compete in Five Meets, Herrmann Breaks 40 year old Record

AZUSA, Calif. / LONG BEACH, Calif. / WALNUT, Calif. / SPOKANE, Wash. – The Vandals had strong performances competing in five meets over three days.  

The meets in California brought numerous teams from all over the country and despite the crazy schedule and highly competitive field, 33 Vandals set personal bests including a school record.

Highlighting the week was Lorenz Herrmann, who ran the 1500 meters in a school-record time of 3:42.11. The previous record was set in 1982 by John Trott (3:43.4).

Tim Stevens ran the third-best time in Idaho history in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:43.95.

23 Vandals moved into the top 10 in the conference standings and Grady Leonard and Hannah Ringel claimed the top spots in the shot put.

Leonard moved up to 33rd in the NCCA West Regional shot-put standings. Deyondre Davis moved up to 46th in the 400-meter hurdles, Joseph Ruddell jumped up to 43rd in the High Jump and Maya Kobylanski moved up to 42nd in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Four Vandals won their respective events. At the Beach Invite, Spencer Barrera won the 400 meters, Jolene Whiteley won the 10,00 meters, and Joseph Ruddell won the High Jump. Davis won the 400-meter hurdles at the Bryan Clay Invite.

The Vandals will take the week off before competing in two meets next weekend. April 29-30 at the Oregon State High Performance Meet in Corvallis, Ore., and the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. on April 30.
