CHENEY, Wash. – Idaho men's tennis cruised past Eastern Washington, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse. The Vandals earned their second consecutive win, improving to 6-10 overall and 2-1 in Big Sky play.
Idaho set the tone early on in doubles action, capturing wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
Bruno Casino and
Francisco Bascon won 6-2 on court one over the Eagles pair.
Francisco Gay and
Mario Duron Garza clinched the doubles point, earning a 6-3 victory over EWU to take a 1-0 advantage.
The Silver and Gold continued to dominate in singles play. Bascon extended his seven-match win streak to eight after capturing a 6-2, 6-2 win over Manuel Balce at the No. 1 spot. Gay scored a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Eastern Washington's No. 2, Erik Sarlvik. At No. 3, Casino won his second consecutive conference singles match, as he took down Steven Paz, 6-3, 6-7, 10-3.
Idaho swept the remaining singles matches, picking up straight-set wins from
Matteo Masala (7-6, 7-5), Garza (6-2, 7-6), and
Alex Asenov (7-5, 6-4).
NEXT UP: The Vandals will return to their home court in Lewiston to face Sacramento State on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m. The match against the Hornets is a part of four straight matches coming at home for Idaho.
