MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's basketball head coach
Jon Newlee has added three student-athletes to the Vandals' class of 2022.
Jenna Kilty | 5-10 | Guard | Oakland, Calif.
Jenna transfers to Idaho after two seasons at Portland State where she appeared in 47 games shooting 34 percent from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. She averaged four 4.0 points and 1.2 rebounds a game for the Vikings.
"Jenna is a long, athletic shooting guard who is able to score from all three levels," head coach
Jon Newlee said. "She is an excellent 3-point shooter, very good from mid-range, and her length and athleticism allow her to finish well at the rim. She also has a high basketball IQ, and I know she will be a perfect fit for our offensive schemes. Defensively she is able to guard any spot on the perimeter. I really like how hard she plays at both ends of the floor. She really impressed me her freshman year and was a focus of our scouts this year. I think given the opportunity she will really have a big impact for us here at Idaho. Having played for one of the top high school programs and top clubs in the country, she knows what it takes to be a part of a championship program like ours. I can't wait to coach her next year!"
Brooke Malone | 6-1 | Forward | Perth, Australia
Brooke transfers to Idaho after redshirting at Idaho State last season. She graduated from Willetton Senior High School in 2020 where she was a part of a national performance program for two years. She represented Western Australia for seven years while being named her u18 club team's MVP in 2018 and 2019.
"Brooke gives us extreme versatility at both ends of the floor," Newlee said. "At 6-1 with a great skill set, she will be able to play inside and outside and be a nightmare matchup problem for our opponents. She can really shoot the 3, drive it hard and finish at the rim, and can post up smaller guards in the paint. An extremely tough and physical defender, she is able to guard on the perimeter and down on the block. She will bring an added presence on the boards as well with her toughness and athletic ability. She can really run the floor and will be a great weapon in transition. She has been playing at a high level down in Australia and will be bringing that experience with her to our team. Brooke has the ability to make a big impact right away in our program. We have had great success with Aussies here at Idaho and I am looking forward to coaching Brooke!"
She helped lead her school to Australian championships while averaging 14.3 points per game, 7.4 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game
Asha Phillips | 5-11 | Guard | North Nowra, Australia
Asha played for the U18 NSW Country team in April 2021 at the Australian Junior Championships. She averaged 8.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. She was 13 of 25 from the three-point range during the tournament.
In 2022 she is playing for NBL1 East where she averaging nearly 30 minutes a game. She is shooting 40.8 percent from the field and averaging 10.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists a game.
"Asha is a very gifted versatile offensive player from Australia," Newlee said. "She has a sweet stroke from beyond the 3-point line and is athletic and tough enough to finish well at the rim. Defensively she is a long, strong, tough physical player who will be able to guard on the perimeter and battle on the block against the bigger guards in our conference. She is a good passer who sees the floor very well in transition and can deliver passes on time and on target. I love how hard she plays. She is willing to take charges, dive after loose balls, and do all the dirty work that her team needs to win championships. She has been playing at a high level down under and will be bringing that experience with her to the Vandals. Asha is going to bring so much to our team, she will be fun to coach!"
The three bring coach Newlee's incoming class of 2022 total to six. He signed three last November (
