FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Lorenz Herrmann advanced to the NCAA National Championship with an impressive performance at the NCAA West Preliminaries.

Herrmann advanced in the 800-meters with a school-record time of 1:46.90 breaking Driss Yousfi's time of 1:47.11 set back in 2006.

Herrmann had previously set a personal best in the first round of the 800 with a time of 1:47.43 to finish third in his heat to automatically advance to the regional final. He then topped his performance with the school record time in the final to qualify for the National Championship.

Overall, 10 Vandals competed in the west preliminaries:

Grady Leonard finished 17^th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 19.04 meters (62'5.75") He also finished 24^th in the hammer throw with a mark of 62.41m (204'9").
Katja Pattis finished 21^st in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:24.57

Cullen Williams finished 35^th in the hammer throw with a mark of 60.91m (199'10").

Nathyn Maller finished 24^th in the javelin with a throw of 62.59 meters (205'4").

Joseph Ruddell cleared heights of 2.00m and 2.05m (6'8.75") but couldn't quite clear 2.10 to finish 29^th in the high jump.

Zachary Nunis best attempt in the jump was 7.21m (23'8") to finish 40^th in the long jump.

In the men's 400-meter hurdles Alex Ayers ran 52.72 in the preliminaries. Deyondre Davis finished 11^th in the prelims with a personal best time of 51.12 seconds to advance to the semifinals where he finished 20^th overall with a time of 52.55 seconds.

Spencer Barrera finished 31^st in the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 46.74 seconds.

Hannah Ringel placed 43^rd in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.16 meters (46' 5.5").
 
Herrmann will compete at the NCCA National Championships June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
