FARMINGTON, Utah – The University of Idaho women's basketball team will play an 18-game conference schedule as announced by the Big Sky Conference on Wednesday. (
FULL BIG SKY RELEASE)
The Vandals will open the Big Sky schedule by hosting last season's conference champions Montana State on Dec. 29 in ICCU Arena. Following the league's transition to 10 teams, one of the biggest changes in the upcoming slate is the lack of conference games early in the month of December.
With an even number of teams, the league will also utilize five travel partners to minimize both missed class time and travel expenses. As it's been in the past, the schedule is a double round-robin format, where every team will play each other both at home and on the road.
The Vandals will close the season with three games in five days hosting Idaho State (Feb. 23) and Weber State (Feb. 25) before closing the season on the road at Montana (Feb. 27.)
The 2023 Big Sky Basketball Championships is scheduled to run from Saturday, March 4 to Wednesday, March 8 in Boise, Idaho. This year, for the first time in league history, the women's title game will air on the ESPN family of networks.
Last season the Vandals finished sixth in the Big Sky with a 8-5 record, earning the six-seed in the tournament. The squad defeated Portland State in the opening round, upset the three-seed Southern Utah in the quarterfinals before nearly upsetting eventual champion Montana State in the semifinals.
