Vandals Fall in Hard-Fought Game at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Idaho Vandals dominated the first half, outgaining Indiana 170-110 and outscoring the Hoosiers 10-0 at the break, but Indiana battled back in the second half with 22 points in the third quarter points to topple Idaho 35-22 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.

The Vandals came to play early with stellar defense, including two stands deep in their own territory and two turnovers, a forced fumble and an interception which helped keep the Hoosiers scoreless in the first half.

On the offensive side, Idaho looked impressive in the first half, including a 98-yard touchdown drive that culminated in a two-yard fly sweep touchdown for Jordan Dwyer, his second TD of the year. The Vandals also added a 29-yard Ricardo Chavez field goal late in the second to take the 10-0 lead into the break.

The third quarter was all Indiana. The Hoosiers found their offense, racking up 239 yards of offense and 23 points in the quarter while the Hoosier defense held the Vandals to just 10 yards in the third.

The Vandals battled back in the fourth. Idaho again outgained the Hoosiers in the fourth quarter. Idaho outgained Indiana 150 to 87 in the fourth quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns but missed both attempts at a two-point conversion.

The Vandals rushed for 126 yards and passed for an additional 204. Gevani McCoy was 13-23 for 204 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Roshaun Johnson carried the ball 16 times for a Vandal-high 63 yards. He also caught two passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Dwyer caught five passes for 21 yards and a score. Michael Graves has three catches for 84 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side, Fa'Avae Fa'Avae notched a team-high 12 tackles, including eight solo stops. Tommy McCormick had six tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Kenion Murvin III had four tackles and a forced fumble.

The Vandals fall to 0-2 on the year after battling a pair of Power Five schools in hard-fought games.
