Vandals Topple Drake 42-14 to Earn Eck's First Win

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal offense racked up 447 yards of offense, and the Idaho defense held Drake to just 210 yards to earn head coach Jason Eck the first win of his career in his first home game as the Idaho head coach.

Jermaine Jackson had a stellar all-around game, catching three passes for 92 yards and a touchdown and returning four punts for 92 yards and another score.

Idaho quarterbacks Gevani McCoy and Jack Layne combined for 288 yards passing and a touchdown from McCoy to Johnson on the opening Vandal drive.

Idaho did yeoman's work on the ground. Anthony Woods had 11 carries for 81 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Elisha Cummings played his first game of the season and rushed for 33 yards and a score while Roshaun Johnson added 16 carries and another touchdown.

Connor Whitney had 55 yards receiving on six catches while Hayden Hatten added 68 yards on four grabs.

Kicker Ricardo Chavez was used early and often. He made four field goals, including a 44-yarder for a very solid game for the junior college transfer in his Kibbie Dome debut.

Fa'avae Fa'avae recorded eight tackles and a pass breakup for the Vandal defense. Paul Moala had eight tackles and an interception in another strong showing. Sully Shannon tallied six tackles and 1.5 TFLs. Murvin Kenion III tallied a tackle for loss and an interception.

The win is the first in Eck's career after dropping a pair of hard-fought road games against Power-5 opponents. Idaho is now 1-2 on the year while Drake falls to 0-3.

The Vandals held Drake to 62 yards rushing on 33 carries and 148 yards on just nine completions. The Vandals won the turnover battle for the third time in three games this season.

-         Idaho is now 7-2 in the turnover battle this season.
-         In three games, Idaho has grabbed three interceptions, one shy of last year's season total.

-         Ricardo Chavez is the first Vandal to make four field goals in a game since Idaho's 37-19 loss to Appalachian State in 2016.
