OGDEN, Utah – Kira Witte notched a career-high 10 saves and
Savannah Foster scored a rebound goal in the 24th minute to give Idaho Vandal soccer a 1-0 win over Weber State to start Big Sky play Thursday night in Ogden.
The Wildcats put on the pressure early, recording three shots on goal and four total shots in the first ten minutes of the game before the Vandal offense found its footing.
After three shots, the Vandals got on the board when
Maya Hamilton sent a beautiful cross into the box that was headed by
Annika Farley to the goal. It was deflected by the Weber State goalkeeper but dribbled down the line where Foster attacked and scored.
The goal was Foster's second of the season, the second game-winner of the year and the fifth of her career.
The Wildcats would put the pressure back on in the second half, outshooting the Vandals 10-2 after the break, but Witte, the NCAA leader in shutouts, put on a show. She made multiple highlight saves to preserve the clean sheet.
She has now recorded seven-consecutive shutouts and played over 630 consecutive minutes of shutout soccer.
The Vandals move to 6-1-2 on the year and 1-0-0 in Big Sky play.
