MOSCOW, Idaho - Northern Arizona came out strong taking the lead in the second minute and held on to defeat the Vandals 90-67.
Beyonce Bea scored a team high 17 points followed by
Sarah Brans with a career-high 14.
The Vandals earned their only lead 20 seconds into the game with two free throws from Bea. Shortly after, NAU got rolling and could not miss. The Lumberjacks shot 50% (9-18) from the field, 33.3% (1-3) from three-point range and 2-2 from the line. The Vandals attempted more shots but could not finish tonight. Idaho went 20% (3-15) from the field, 12.5% (1-8) from three-point range and 4-4 from the line. Bea led the team with six points, followed by
Rosa Smith with four and Brans with three.
The second quarter mirrored the first as the Lumberjacks continued to have hot hands. NAU finished the half shooting over 50% from the field and 100% from the line.
Sydney Gandy entered the score sheet with five points in the quarter.
Idaho outrebounded Northern Arizona in the third quarter 11-10, but still could not edge out the conference-leading team in shooting percentage. Bea led the quarter with only six points. The Vandals shot 30.8% (4-13) from the field and 70% (7-10) from three-point range. The final ten minutes continued to be in favor of the Lumberjacks as they closed out the 90-67 win.
The Vandals are staying at home for one more game this weekend on Saturday, January 21
st at 6 p.m. in the ICCU Arena.
