Lorenz Herrmann Breaks School Record on First Day of Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open

MOSCOW, Idaho – Lorenz Herrmann broke in the new track with a personal best and school best time of 4:03.17 in the mile. Six Vandals took first in their respective events, sweeping the mile and the 200m on both the men's and women's sides. 17 Vandals earned personal best marks as well.

The day began with the multis as Katja Davidowske competed in the women's pentathlon. Davidowske finished fifth with a total of 3,225 points. She placed top-three in two events, earning 736 points with second in the high jump (1.60m) and 537 points with third in the shot put (10.12m).

After the multis, Herrmann dominated in the mile, recording a new school record and a personal best time of 4:03.17. Shea Mattson (4:11.67) and Gage Zanette (4:15.40) were behind Herrmann, earning 3rd and 5th place. Kelsey Swenson kept the momentum rolling with another first-place finish in the mile with a personal best time of 4:53.57.

The 200-meter dash was an all-out effort for Mika Brouwer as he hurled himself over the finish line to beat teammate Jemini Archer for first with a personal best time of 21.65. Archer was milliseconds behind with a time of 21.72. Spencer Barrera was just a step behind Archer, finishing with a time of 21.87. The Vandals on the women's side were just as successful in the event, with a first-place finish from Camryn Crouch with a time of 24.65. Olivia Martin (25.26) and Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi (25.44) were right behind, earning third and fourth place.

Cruz Flores and Gabriel Dinnel earned third and fourth in the 5,000m run, closing out the running events for the day. Flores ran a personal best time of 14:48.69 and Dinnel finished with a time of 15:07.31.

As the running events were taking place, the field events were well underway. Tayler LyDay kicked off the field on the women's side with a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.60m. No surprise, Joseph Ruddell earned first place in the high jump with a mark of 2.03m. Joe Reiber placed third with the same height with more attempts.

The first day of the Lauren McCluskey concluded with four top-five finishes in the men's long jump. Zach Nunis placed first with a distance of 7.31m. Justyn Rogers (7.15m), Landon Peterson (6.79m), and Cash Jones (6.75m) took third through fifth place.

The Vandals will be back in action with the remaining events on day two of the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open. Running events will start with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles at 9:00 a.m. and the field events will start with the heptathlon pole vault at 9:45 a.m.
