MOSCOW, Idaho – On Saturday night, the Vandals dropped a close game 63-58 to Northern Colorado.
Beyonce Bea led the team with 26 points while eight other Vandals got on the scoreboard.
Sarah Brans earned her first career start tonight while
Ashlyn Wallace started for the second time this season. The Vandals fought strong in the first quarter, outrebounding the Bears 9-6 with four from
Rosa Smith.
Beyonce Bea totaled eight points for the Vandals. Sadly, turnovers and missed shots caused the Bears to pull ahead 10-16.
In the second quarter, the Vandals hit harder as
Tiana Johnson tied the score with a three-point shot from the corner. Bea earned eight more points while Brans tallied four. Idaho outrebounded the Bears both defensively and offensively, extending the lead to 30-23 going into the half.
The Bears got closer to the Vandals, outscoring Idaho 20-16 in the third quarter. The Vandals fought hard and held on to the lead with key points from many different players.
Sydney Gandy and
Jenna Kilty got on the board with shots from three-point range joined by Bea with six points. Idaho had the largest lead of the game 42-32 with four minutes remaining in the quarter.
The final 10 minutes were a battle that came down to a matter of fouls. Idaho gave Northern Colorado 12 chances from the line, costing 10 points. The game was decided in the final seconds as Idaho missed two key chances.
The Bears outshot the Vandals from the field, going 21-49 (42.9%) and 4-13 (30.8%) from the three-point range. Idaho was 100% from the line on two attempts. The Vandals closed the game shooting 21-54 (38.9%) from the field and 6-21 (28.6%) from three-point range.
The Vandals hit the road with their next game Thursday morning at Weber State in Ogden.
