Track and Field Returns to the Podium This Weekend for Lilac Grand Prix and Inland Northwest Invite

MOSCOW, Idaho – Kelsey Swenson and Lorenz Herrmann will compete in the Lilac Grand Prix on Friday night. The Vandals will continue competition the following day at the Inland Northwest Invite hosted by Whitworth. Both events will take place at The Podium in Spokane.

Swenson and Herrmann qualified for spots at the Lilac Grand Prix in the women's 3000m and men's 800m. The event marks the opening day for the professional indoor track and field circuit in the United States, with a focus on middle-distance events. Swenson and Herrmann will have the opportunity to compete against professional athletes, racing for points, pride, and world standings.

The Vandals will face familiar competition on Saturday as they compete among schools such as Eastern Washington, Washington State, San Francisco, and Lewis-Clark. Over 20 athletes from the men's and women's sides will participate in the track and field events. The day will start with field events and running events at 9:30 a.m. The first field event will consist of the women's weight throw while the running will start with the men's 5000m.

In the throw events, Lily Phenicie, Mia Sylvester, and Paige Palzinski will compete in the women's weight throw as Sylvester will make her collegiate debut in the event. The three will also compete in the shot put as well. On the men's side, Weston Jeffries and Reid Thomas will compete in the weight throw. Both are in the top 10 for seed marks with distances of 14.78m and 14.62m. Noah Culbertson will join Thomas and Jeffies in the shot put with the highest seed mark of 17.17m.

In the jump events, Joseph Ruddell will compete in the men's high jump with the highest seed mark of 2.15m. Landon Peterson and Cash Jones will compete in the long jump. Freshman, Simone Fedel rounds out the men's side in the triple jump with the top seed mark of 13.80m. On the women's side, Ellie Grant and Julia Hayes are set to compete in the high jump. Hayes has the top seed mark with a height of 1.73m and Grant sits fifth with a height of 1.58m. Anna Spatz, Amanda Munoz, and Katja Davidowske will compete in the long jump. Grant will be the lone Vandal competing in the women's triple jump with the third-highest seed mark of 11.17m.

Jurrian Hering and Camryn Crouch will kick things off for the sprinters in the 60m dash preliminary rounds on the men's and women's sides. He will be joined by Deyondre Davis later as they take on the 60m hurdle preliminary rounds. On the women's side, Belen Garcia Arias and Katja Davidowske will compete in the 60m hurdle preliminary rounds. The Vandals will be represented by Crouch and Olivia Martin in the 200m on the women's side and by Jon Watkins on the men's side. Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi, Franziska Stoehr, Martin, and Lara Holzhauer will compete in the women's 400m. Deyondre Davis, Watkins, and Even Henkel will compete for the men.
