Talented Triathlete Commits to Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is thrilled to announce the signing of Andrea Cernuda as a graduate transfer from the University of South Dakota. Cernuda will be coming to the Vandals this incoming spring semester and will make a positive impact on the distance team.

Cernuda, originally from Spain, attended high school at Boise High in southern Idaho. In high school, she ran cross country and competed on the swim and dive team.

Her senior season saw the Braves cross-country team reach new heights. The team was ranked No. 1 in the nation, won the state championship and competed at the elite Nike Cross Nationals race. Instead of track & field, she focused on the triathlon competing at the Junior Elite and Elite levels in the United States and Europe.

Competing in the triathlon at the University of South Dakota, Cernuda established herself as a crucial member of the team. USD placed third in her freshmen year and fourth in her sophomore year at the NCAA National Championships.

Cernuda is a double major in computer science and biological engineering. At USD she was also a double major, working towards a biomedical engineering degree and a neuroscience degree.

"We are excited to have a talent like Andrea join the team this spring,"  Idaho Director of Track & Field /Cross Country Tim Cawley said. "She should have an impact on the track and in the classroom."
