PORTLAND, Ore. – The Vandals fell to the Vikings 2-1, on Friday night in Portland. Idaho sits at 1-2-1 in conference and 6-4-2 overall.
In her 59th appearance for the Vandals, Alyssa Peters scored her first career goal in tonight's match. Peters is tied for second on the team with nine points this season with one goal and seven assists.
The Vandals out-shot the Vikings 16-12, registering nine shots on goal to Portland State's four. Much like the game against Montana, Idaho was just missing the goal unable to find the back of the net, keeping them off the scoreboard for the majority of the game.
The first half was scoreless, but the Vandals put on the pressure with a close opportunity by Jadyn Hanks. Hanks broke through the back line and shot the ball at the near post. The Vikings' keeper deflected it right back at Hanks and her second shot fell just short of the goal before the Vikings cleaned it up.
Portland State scored both goals from the left corner with headers. The goals came in the 56th minute and the 71st minute.
Idaho scored their lone goal in the 67th minute. After a loose drop ball, Margo Schoesler attacked the left side of the field. She attempted to cross the ball into the box, but the Vikings' defender headed it out. The clearance rolled right in front of Peters, who stepped up and hit it one touch. The laser shot slid right past the keeper on the left side, equalizing the game for four minutes.
The Vandals take on Sacramento State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for their second-to-last road match of the regular conference season.
