MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Idaho volleyball team lost in three sets against Portland State 11-25, 22-25, 19-25 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
Taryn Vrieling led the offensive output with 13 kills on a .258 hitting percentage, while setter
Keelyn Muell totaled a team-high 24 assists and two blocks.
The Vikings won the opening set, 25-11.
Aine Doty and Vrieling led the way defensively, as the pair both totaled six digs. Portland State used a 12-2 run midway through the frame, which built a large enough lead to coast through the set.Â
Idaho fell in a hard-fought second set, 25-22. The Vandals had 14 kills as a team led by Vrieling, who totaled five kills. Muell continued to rack up assists with 11 in the set. Idaho allowed a four-point lead to the Vikings but the Vandals used a 9-0 run to come back and take a five-point advantage to make it 18-13. Despite the effort, Portland State battled back and used a 6-0 run to close out the second set. Â
The Vikings won in the third by a score of 25-19. Idaho allowed the Vikings to record 16 kills on .289% in the third. Portland State went on a 6-1 run to make the score 12-6, which was a large enough lead that Idaho couldn't rally back from.Â
Up next, Idaho heads east to start a two-game road stand at Montana (Oct. 12) and Montana State (Oct. 14).
