Volleyball Closes Home Schedule with Loss to Northern Arizona

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho volleyball team dropped their final home match of the season to Northern Arizona, 14-25, 21-25, 10-25, on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym. 

Taryn Vrieling had her second consecutive game with double-digit kills with 12 while both Natalia Wielgus and Keelyn Muell had 13 assists. Defensively, Aine Doty delivered her 22nd double-digit dig effort leading the team with 14. 

Idaho dropped the first set, 25-14. Vrieling had a strong start offensively with five kills while Wielgus supported on both ends with five assists and two digs. Neither team was able to break through to begin the game until NAU went on a 7-1 run to go up 15-8 mid-set. The Lumberjacks continued to add to their strong lead and were able to close out the set on a 7-3 run and take a 1-0 advantage. 

Northern Arizona earned a set two victory, 25-21. The Vandals posted 14 kills on 42 swings and added three blocks on the defensive end in the set. The two teams traded leads throughout the set as neither side could find separation from the other until the Lumberjacks managed to go on a 9-2 run to give them an 18-12 advantage. The Silver and Gold managed to cut into the lead with a 7-2 spurt to make it a one-point game (20-19) but the Lumberjacks would prevail scoring five of the next seven points.

The Lumberjacks earned the match win in the third, 25-10. NAU recorded 14 kills on only one error, while hitting a game-high .500 to help clinch the match victory. 

Up next, the Vandals head up to Cheney to face Eastern Washington for their final match of the season on Friday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.
