Ruddell and Nunis Place First, Crouch Sets New School Record as Track Wraps Up Day Two of Big Sky

MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal track and field closed out the first two days of the Big Sky Indoor Championships on Friday night. Joseph Ruddell took home first place in the men's high jump joined by Zachary Nunis in the long jump. Camryn Crouch earned a new school record in the 200m qualifying for the finals tomorrow. The Vandals earned points in seven other events throughout the day.

The men finished the day placed in second with 45 points, while the women sit at sixth with 17 points. Friday's events consisted of primarily preliminary rounds joined by finals in field and distance events. 15 Vandals earned spots in the finals tomorrow through the preliminary rounds in their respective events.

Field Events
Mia Sylvester started the day for the field events, earning sixth in the women's weight throw with a distance of 17.32m. Tayler LyDay followed her up with a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.59m.

On the men's side, Ruddell brought home the first gold medal of the day in the high jump with a height of 2.12m. Joe Reiber finished in fourth place with a height of 2.03m. Nunis and Noah Culbertson finished the night with first and second-place finishes in their events. Nunis earned first in the long jump with a distance of 7.60m and Culbertson earned second with a distance of 17.69m in the shot put. Justyn Rogers placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 7.30m.

Track Events
Jurrian Hering was the first Vandal to earn a spot in the finals on the day. Hering ran the fourth-fastest time in the 60m hurdles at 8.00s.

In the 400m, Spencer Barrera, Alex Ayers, and Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi earned spots in the finals. Barrera ran the third-fastest time at 47.79s followed by Ayers at 48.44s. Wickramaraachchi was the lone Vandal to qualify for the women with a time of 56.43s.

Four Vandals, two men, and two women will race in the finals for the 60m dash tomorrow. Mika Brouwer and Jemini Archer qualified for the men with times of 6.86s and 6.88s, respectively. Camryn Crouch and Olivia Martin qualified for the women with times of 7.45s and 7.59s, respectively. Crouch ran the second-fastest time of the night.

Zac Bright and Lorenz Herrmann advanced to the 800m finals after qualifying in the prelims tonight. Herrmann sealed his spot back in the finals with a time of 1:52.68 and Bright joins him with a time of 1:51.43. Leah Holmgren earned her spot with a time of 2:11.45.

In the 200m, Brouwer earned a second spot in the finals with the second-fastest time of 21.31s. Crouch and Martin will take on another final together as they both qualified for the 200m. Crouch set a new school record in the 200m with a time of 24.13. She broke the previous school record held by the Olympian, Angela Whyte.

Kelsey Swenson picked up points for the Vandal women placing fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:49.67.

The day ended with the distance medley relays where the men placed second and the women placed fourth. Herrmann, Deyondre Davis, Tim Stevens, and Shea Mattson teamed up to run a time of 9:50.49, only two seconds away from the school record. Katja Pattis, Franziska Stoehr, Elise Abbott, and Nathalia Campos competed for the women and earned a time of 11:42.57.
