MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho women's basketball will stay at home this weekend for a lone match against Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Vandals will tip off vs EWU at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 11
th followed by the men's game at 3:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will be available via radio broadcast heard on AM 840 KMAX or GoVandals.com.
ABOUT IDAHO: The Vandals have turned around their season in the Big Sky following three wins in the past four games. Idaho currently sits at seventh in the conference with a 5-7 record. The Vandals split the weekend at home versus Portland State on Thursday (2/2) and Sacramento State on Saturday (2/4). The 77-70 win over Portland State was made possible by a full team effort as the team tallied 21 assists. Every Vandal that stepped on to the court recorded two or more points as the team shot a season high 52.7% (29-55) from the field.
Sarah Brans had a career high game with 16 points and five assists.
Beyonce Bea recorded her first double-double of the weekend with 30 points and 10 rebounds against the Vikings. On Saturday's game against Sacramento State, Bea recorded another double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, earning her fourth Big Sky Player of the Week honor this season. Despite the 77-70 loss to the Hornets, the Vandals fought back from a 20-point deficit at halftime to bring the game within single digits in the final quarter.
Rosa Smith ignited the team defensively and offensively, scoring the majority of her 11 points in the final ten minutes. The Hornets prevailed, but Idaho refused to go down without a fight.
ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON: Eastern Washington currently sits fifth in the conference with a 7-5 record. The Eagles also split the weekend with Portland State and Sacramento State at home. EWU defeated Sacramento State 64-53 and lost to PSU 80-71. The Eagles bested the Hornets, shooting 41& (25-61) from the field and 60% (9-15) from the line while Sacramento State shot under 40% in both categories. Portland State had a standout performance against Eastern Washington on Saturday, shooting 60.4% (29-48) from the field, 53.8% (7-13) from the arc, and 93.8% (15-16) from the line.
Eastern Washington's Aaliyah Alexander tallied 19 points in both games and is third on the team with 223 points on the season. Jaydia Martin (322) and Jamie Loera (236) both sit above Alexander in points. Eastern Washington leads the conference in assists per game with 15.5. Loera is strong on defense, leading the conference in steals (54) and steals per game (2.45).
SERIES HISTORY: The series history is tight as the Eagles have the edge 43-41 all time. The Vandals are 22-14 against EWU at home. Idaho is 9-1 against the Eagles in the last 10 meetings.
