MOSCOW, Idaho – University of Idaho men's golf men's coach
David Nuhn announced the addition of UNLV transfer and Spokane native Tommy Kimmel to the Vandal golf program.
Kimmel was twice the GSL Player of the Year (2019, 2021) at Gonzaga Prep and helped lead the Bullpups to four-straight GSL Championships and a 2018 Washington State Championship. His low competitive round was 63 at Palouse Ridge during the WJGA Regional Championship.
In the summer of 2019, he participated in the U.S. Junior Amateur and the IMG Junior World Championship.
Tommy's parents Jimmy and Mary attended Idaho as well as many other members of his extended family.
"We are very excited for Tommy to join the Vandal golf team," Nuhn said. "He comes from a Vandal family, he was high school teammates with current Vandal
Matt McGann and he was raised in the Spokane so he knows our program, our goals and our culture. We recruited him hard out of high school, but he chose an opportunity elsewhere. When he had the chance to come back to the Inland Northwest, we were just as eager to recruit him this time around. We think he will fit in with our team and help us continue to elevate our program."
He played two seasons at UNLV before deciding to transfer at the end of the fall semester this year. He plans to major in business at Idaho.
"I am excited to play for a place with a family environment," Kimmel said. "I want to work as a team to win a Big Sky Conference Championship."
The Vandals continue their season on Sunday, March 12, by hosting the Bandon Dunes Championship at the Bandon Dunes Resort on the Oregon Coast.
