POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho men's tennis picked up its fifth consecutive win and clinched the ICCU Battle of the Domes Rivalry Series for the second straight season, defeating Idaho State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Reed Gym.
Heading into the match, Idaho led Idaho State 51-50 in the annual series that featured the two programs in a winner take all matchup.
Idaho used a strong start to begin the match winning two out of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 advantage.
Mario Duron and
Vivek Ramesh picked up the Vandals' first victory at the No. 3 spot, winning 6-4 over ISU's Wikus Robbertse and JW Altman.
Francisco Gay and
Taiyo Kurata continued their success on court two, defeating Victor Sklenka and Hiroki Fujita 7-5 to clinch the doubles point and earn the duo's fifth straight win as a pair.
In singles play Idaho won three out of six matches, securing the match win.
Idaho State tied it up at 1-1 before
Bruno Casino won 6-3, 6-2 over Wikus Robbertse on court three to put the Vandals back in front.
Fresh off being named Big Sky Player of the Week,
Francisco Bascon helped the Vandals take a 3-1 advantage while picking up his seventh straight win at the No. 1 singles spot. The Cordoba, Spain native posted a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) tiebreaker victory over Valentino De Pellegrin.
Duron clinched the match victory and earned his seventh straight victory in singles, winning convincingly in straight sets in the No. 6 position, 6-4, 6-2.
