FARMINGTON, Utah – University of Idaho's Mia Sylvester was named Big Sky Conference's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The Big Sky Indoor Field Freshman of the Year is proving herself, earning the first Athlete of the Week honor this season for the Vandals. At the Stanford Invitational, Sylvester placed third in the shot put with an outdoor personal best distance of 15.64m. She placed third behind two Oregon throwers, one of which threw the sixth-best mark in the NCAA this season.
Sylvester's mark ranks at No. 52 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the conference. She is also the only female shot putter from the Big Sky that is ranked in the top 100.
The throw from this weekend also ranks third all-time at Idaho behind Hannah Ringel at 15.80m (2022) and Mykael Bothum at 16.06m (2010).
