MOSCOW, Idaho – Eight Vandals from Idaho Track and Field will travel to Sacramento, Calif. next week to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. The meet will begin Wednesday, May 24th at Sacramento State and conclude on Saturday, May 27th.
Kelsey Swenson and Katja Pattis will represent the women at Sacramento State. Swenson will compete in her first-ever NCAA event for track in the 5K and the 10K. The senior has participated in the NCAA cross country championships three times in her career. Swenson is the 38th overall seed in the 5K with a time of 16:08.63 and the 30th overall seed in the 10K with a time of 33:21.11.
Pattis will compete in her second-straight NCAA West Preliminaries in the 3K Steeplechase. Last year, she finished 21st with a time of 10:24.57. This year, the sophomore enters as the 15th seed with a time of 10:05.31.
Six Vandals will represent the men at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Lorenz Herrmann returns to compete in the 800m where he was tabbed a Second Team All-American last season. The junior ran a career-best of 1:46.90 last season and placed fourth, earning a spot at the national championship. This season, he enters as the 18th seed with a time of 1:47.80.
Jurrian Hering will compete in his first-ever NCAA West Preliminaries in the 110m hurdles. He qualified as the 44th seed with a time of 13.96, less than 0.64 seconds away from the No. 1 seed.
Deyondre Davis will return for his third-straight appearance at the West Preliminary Rounds in the 400m hurdles. In 2022, Davis placed 11th in the first round with a career-best time of 51.12 and went on to place 20th in the following round with a time of 52.55. In his first appearance in 2021, Davis placed 42nd in the opening round with a time of 52.93. The junior comes in as the 38th seed with a placement time of 51.88.
Three Vandal men will compete in the field events. Simone Fedel is set to compete in the triple jump. The true freshman qualified with a distance of 15.18m and is the 46th overall seed.
In his second season of competition, Noah Culbertson will make his debut at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the shot put. The sophomore comes in as the 44th seed with a mark of 17.75m.
Lastly, Nathyn Maller will return to the preliminaries in his final season. The graduate student qualified last year in the javelin throw where he placed 24th with a distance of 56.90m. This season, he enters as the 47th seed with a mark of 62.65m.
