ESPN2 to Broadcast the Battle for the Little Brown Stein

BRISTOL, Conn. – The Battle for the Little Brown Stein will take place on the national stage. The 89th meeting of Idaho and Montana, slated for Oct. 14 at the Kibbie Dome will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m., the Worldwide Leader announced Wednesday. The game will also be homecoming for Idaho.

"We are very excited to host Montana for our homecoming game on ESPN2 in the Battle for the Little Brown Stein," head coach Jason Eck said. "This is a tremendous regional rivalry that is very important to our student-athletes and fans. It will be awesome for the entire country to see the passion that comes out in the Kibbie Dome."

The 2022 version of the of the Battle for Little Brown Stein was a classic. Idaho overcame a halftime deficit to take a 30-16 lead en route to a 30-23 win over the third-ranked Grizzlies in Missoula in front of a sold-out Washington-Grizzly Stadium. It was the first win in the series for the Vandals since 1999.

This year's game features two teams with high expectations in the preseason. Idaho is ranked seventh and Montana 10th in the Athlon Preseason polls and both teams made the playoffs a season ago.

The Vandals offense features consensus All-American Hayden Hatten and Jerry Rice Award winning quarterback Gevani McCoy. All-American cornerback Marcus Harris anchors the Vandal defense.

The Vandals hold a commanding 56-30-2 lead in the series which was first played 120 years ago on Nov. 18, 1903.

This is the first ESPN linear game for the Vandals since playing on ESPNU in 2018 against Florida and the first in the Kibbie Dome since 2010 against Boise State.

The kickoff time and TV Network was also announced for Idaho's Sept. 16 game against Cal. The game is slated to kickoff at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
