MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal soccer team hits the road for the first time this season with two matches this weekend. Idaho will take on Utah Tech on Thursday, August 24th at 7:00 p.m. PST followed by UNLV on Sunday, August 27th at 11:00 a.m. PST.
ABOUT IDAHO: Idaho soccer finished last weekend 1-1 at home. On Thursday evening, the Vandals defeated Seattle U for the first time at home in series history. The 3-1 win featured goals from Annika Farley, Jadyn Hanks, and Izzy Thoma. Seattle U's lone goal was off a penalty kick. The true freshman, Thoma scored her first career goal in her first career appearance for the Vandals. Leslie Duarte and KV Miller both made their first college appearances on Thursday as well.
On Sunday afternoon, the Vandals hosted Washington. Idaho fell to the Huskies 3-1 in a physical matchup. Jayd Sprague headed in her first goal of the season off a corner kick from Alyssa Peters to tie the game 1-1. With the assist, Peters moved into the Idaho record book with 12 career assists, ranking tied for ninth with teammate Makenzie Burks and two others. The Pac-12 foe was able to tally two second-half goals to seal the win.
ABOUT UTAH TECH: Utah Tech was on the road for their first two matches of the season. They ended the weekend 1-0-1 with a 3-1 win over the University of South Dakota and a 0-0 tie at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Senior, Brynlee Rider lead the Trailblazers with two goals in the win over South Dakota. Thursday's match will be broadcasted on through WAC International TV.
Utah Tech and Idaho have never faced off before. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
ABOUT UNLV: In UNLV's opening home weekend, the Rebels went 0-1-1 with a 3-0 loss to North Texas and a 0-0 tie to CSUN. The Rebels have yet to score this season and will look to turn things around against UC Riverside on Thursday. Sunday's match will be streamed through the Mountain West site.
The Vandals and the Rebels have played each other three times before, all ending in favor of UNLV. The Vandals hosted UNLV once while the other two matches were played in Las Vegas. In the last meeting in 2013, the game ended 0-0 after regulation and went into two overtime periods. The rebels ended the match with a golden goal in the second overtime.
