MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandals were swept by Seattle U, 16-25, 23-25, 22-25, to open the 2023 season on Friday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
Sophomore
Taryn Vrieling led Idaho with 14 kills with a .324 clip. Newcomer
Renata Lopez Morales delivered eight more kills on a .438 hitting percentage, while freshman
Zuzanna Wieczorek posted six kills and four digs.
Seattle U won the first set, 25-16. Idaho had struggles on the attack, hitting .136 with seven errors in the set, while the Redhawks hit .286 with three hitting errors.
The second frame went in favor of the Redhawks, as they earned a 25-23 result. The Vandals out-killed Seattle U, 17-16, but the Redhawks were more efficient on the attack with a .359 hitting percentage.
The Redhawks won the match with a 25-22 victory in the third set. Idaho rallied from down 13-8 to tie the score at 13 all, but Seattle U went on a 6-2 run late in the set to put away the match.
The Vandals will look to turn it around tomorrow when they host North Dakota State at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
