MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho cross country team opens the 2023 season Friday at the Clash of the Inland Northwest hosted by Eastern Washington in Cheney, Wash. The women's 4K is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. PT and the men's 6K following at 9 a.m.

The Vandal women enter the season ranked No. 12 in the NCAA D1 West Region and the men of Idaho at No. 14, rising two spots from the final rankings in 2022.
The Idaho men, who were picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky preseason poll, placed fifth at last year's Big Sky Championships and return three top-30 finishers in Lorenz Herrmann, Tim Stevens, and Shea Mattson. The men welcome two newcomers in freshman Kyle Swenson and junior Shane Gard, a NJCAA Indoor Mile National Champion.
The women's squad was tabbed at No. 3 in the Big Sky preseason poll coming off of a second-place finish at the 2022 Big Sky Championships and a No. 10 finish at the NCAA West Regional Championships. The women are led by three Big Sky top-20 finishers, Maya Kobylanski, Katja Pattis, and Nathalia Campos. The Vandals also added four talented freshmen to the team.
Following the Clash of the Inland Northwest, the Vandals will head to Colfax, Wash. for the Washington State Invite to face the Cougars on Friday, Sept. 15.
