FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Idaho volleyball team fell to Northern Arizona, 12-25, 21-25, 21-25, on Saturday night at the Rolle Activity Center.
Keelyn Muell led Idaho's offense with 17 assists and two kills on the day while
Taryn Vrieling and
Rana Kamis each posted five kills. Defensively, libero
Duru Vardan posted a team-high and career-high 10 digs.
The Lumberjacks earned a commanding 25-12 first-set win to open the match. NAU used a 4-0 and 5-0 run to build a large lead to start as the Vandals couldn't catch up.
Idaho lost in the second set, 25-21. It was again NAU using a fast start to gain leverage early on which Idaho was unable to close the gap. After posting four kills in the first frame, Idaho was without success getting their attack going in the second as the Vandals posted seven kills and hit .088.
Northern Arizona won the match in the third by a score of 25-21. The Vandals kept within two points midway through the set but the Lumberjacks built a 6-0 and 3-0 run to make it 20-11. Idaho would score 10 of the next 15 points but that wasn't enough as Northern Arizona closed out the match.
Idaho continues its three-game road stretch with a trip to Weber State (Sept. 28) and Idaho State (Sept. 30) next week.
