OGDEN, Utah – Idaho men's basketball (7-11, 1-4 BSC) dropped a road matchup at Weber State (12-7, 3-2 BSC), 88-65 on Saturday night at the Dee Event Center.
Julius Mims scored his second-most points of the season with 21 on 10-of-12 shooting. He also grabbed a team-high six rebounds and knocked down one three-pointer.
The backcourt of
Quinn Denker and
D'Angelo Minnis added double-figure scoring efforts, as Denker scored 13 points and Minnis posted 10.
Tyler Linhardt added 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
It was a fast start for Idaho to begin action as the Vandals jumped out to a 21-9 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half. From there,
Terren Frank and Denker knocked down a three each and Mims converted on a layup to make it 27-18 with 8:49 to play. Denker and Mims were key in the opening stretch, combining to score 19 of the Vandals 27 points. Weber State chipped away to eventually tie the score at the half, 35-35.
Seven lead changes and five ties transpired in the first eight minutes of the second half before the game slipped away for the Vandals. The Wildcats used a 20-4 run to break it open and go up 15 points (68-53) with over seven minutes left. An 18-8 spurt from Weber put the game out of reach, as Idaho was unable to mount a comeback.
Success from the free throw line and on the glass helped Weber rally back, as the Wildcats shot 22-of-25 (88 percent) and outrebounded Idaho, 37-21.
