Former Idaho WBB Head Coach, Tara VanDerveer Becomes Winningest Coach in NCAA History

MOSCOW, Idaho - Tara VanDerveer was crowned the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history on Sunday afternoon. VanDerveer earned win No. 1,203 after the Stanford Cardinals defeated Oregon State, 65-56 in Maples Pavillion. 

VanDerveer began her head coaching journey at the University of Idaho in 1978, picking up her first win in Moscow 70-68 win over Northern Montana. She led the Vandals to a 17-8 mark in the 1978-79 season before earning a 25-6 record in the 179-80 season. She earned 42 wins in her two seasons at the helm at Idaho. VanDerveer went on to coach at Ohio State before landing in Palo Alto coaching for Stanford.

Many former players revisited special memories from their time with VanDerveer saying, "I played basketball for Tara VanDerveer."
