SPOKANE – Mario Duron picked up his first singles win of the 2024 spring season, but the Idaho men's tennis team dropped their match at Gonzaga, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Idaho began the day by earning a victory on court three in doubles to jumpstart action.
Sebastian Medica and
Alex Asenov knocked off Gonzaga's Gus Krauel and Tom Dunlop by way of a 6-2 result to give the edge to the Vandals in doubles play. The Zags responded with a pair of victories at No. 1 and 2 to clinch the doubles point.
Duron was the lone Vandal to come out victorious in singles action, earning a dominant 6-4, 6-0 straight-set win over Dunlop on court five.
Matteo Masala and
Alejandro Salvador both competed in a third-set decider but fell at No. 4 and 6, respectively.
The Vandals continue an eight-match road stand next week when the team travels to North Dakota for a pair of contests against Lindenwood and North Dakota for a Sunday, Feb. 4 doubleheader.
